Here are a few answers to some of the most common questions regarding our hunts. If you have anymore, please don't hesitate to contact us either by phone or email!
Q: I want to book my next hunt with you! What do I do and what is required to reserve my dates?
A: In order to reserve your hunt dates, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. You can send that to PO Box 4, Waterville, KS 66548. Once we recieve your check or money order, we will notify you that we recieved it and mail out your hunt packet. The hunt packet includes alll the information you will need to prepare for your hunt, as well as a hunt contract to fill out and return to us. This is so we can learn a little more about you and your hunting ability, preferences, food allergies, special needs, etc. We will remind you 30 days prior to your hunt that the remaining balance is due before you arrive in camp. Then you can just show up and get right down to hunting!
Q: My wife/husband/other does not hunt but wants to come along. Can they stay at the lodge with me?
A: Most definately! As we are a family oriented outfitter, we encourage families and loved ones to experience hunting adventures together. Any non-hunter is welcome to stay, and are even encouraged to go afield with you. (Number of people besides the hunter allowed in the field for turkey and deer hunts are limited, but not for hog hunts.) We do charge a combined lodging/food fee. Please see the prices page for specific prices.
Q: What is included in the hunts and what do I need to provide?
A: Unless otherwise stated, all hunts include meals, lodging and local airport pickup. We have plenty of blankets, pillows, towels, etc., but you will need to bring personal toiletry items. We provide coke, diet coke, water, sweet and un-sweet tea at the lodge; anything outside of that you will need to bring. You need to purchase any required license or tag, depending on the hunt, as well as any ammo. If you fly in to any airports that are not local, we can arrange pickup, but will charge diesel costs. Any meals or lodging outside of the hunt package are also not included, but can be added for the appropriate fee. More info about specific costs for the hunt you are interested in can be found on that hunt's page.
Q: What type of weapon can you use on a hog hunt?
A: We allow any type of weapon except for shotguns using buckshot for dog safety. We have seen every type of weapon from spears and knives to longbows, pistols and rifles.
Q: Is there a "blood rule" on your hunts?
A: We are not as strict as some outfits, where if there is a drop found, then that is your animal. The blood rule is left up to the discretion of your guide and Brady or Lora. On archery deer hunts, 9 times out of 10 we know by looking at the blood color, dispersion patterns, hide and flesh type whether the animal was mortally wounded or not. If we feel that a fatal shot was fired, then we do count that animal as yours. We will then do everything we can to retrieve the animal, including using dogs, to blood trail. It is the reponsibility of the hunter to do anything in their power to properly prepare and practice for the hunt. If we feel that the animal shot has a very high probability of living, then you will be allowed a second chance to continue your hunt. If another animal is wounded but not killed, then your hunt is done. This applies to all hunts of all species.
Q: What type of lodging do you provide?
A: Depending on the hunt, we use everything from comfortable, country lodges, to five star lodges, to hotels to tents. Lodging varies according to the hunt and state the hunt is conducted in.
Q: Is the land public or private?
A: All of our hunts are conducted on private land leased exclusively by us.
Q: When is the draw for Kansas?
A: The State of Kansas changed the regs this year where the only way a non-resident can get a tag to hunt whitetail is through the draw. It begins and ends in May. We ask that any hunter applying fill out their personal info and mail us the application. We will then check it and fill out the unit info for you and mail them in to the state. This way there is no room for errors.
Q: Are your birds in Florida "true" Osceolas?
A: Most definately! The line established by the NWTF is a full county above the ground where the hunts are conducted. One look at any of our Osceola pictures will eliminate all doubt. They are smaller, never weighing in excess of 20 lbs, have longer legs, thinner beards and longer spurs. Most importantly, however, is the fact that they all have the trademark barring characteristics. Osceolas, unlike Easterns, will have broken and darker barring on their wings. Many NWTF Biologists have hunted with us and were successful in taking home beautiful "true" Osceola trophies!
